The Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association (JHM&SA) is the alumni organization of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Members include alumni of the medical school, alumni of the house staff, current and former post-doctoral fellows, and faculty of the School of Medicine.
JHM&SA is a nonprofit organization with a mission that includes bringing members together for educational and scientific purposes. In keeping with this objective, the Association holds the Biennial Meeting comprising a variety of presentations, lectures and seminars. There is also ample opportunity for social exchange among members, within departments, for alumni celebrating reunions and with current students.
In addition to coordinating the "homecoming" weekend, the Association awards scholarship and financial assistance to various student, fellow and house staff groups in the School of Medicine, and in support of the alumni magazine, Hopkins Medicine.
2012 Stethoscope Ceremony and Reception
On October 10, the Class of 2016 gathered to receive a welcoming gift - an engraved stethoscope. The ceremony, co-hosted by the JHM&SA, sets the tone for the rest of their experience at Johns Hopkins. Alumni and faculty joined the celebration to share stories of their medical school experiences and the wealth of opportunities these young students will have in the years to come. View event photos.
Congratulations to the Class of 2012
Graduation Day! An unforgettable moment of pride and honor for those who have followed in your footsteps. On May 24, the JHM&SA welcomed 250 bright young faces to the alumni family. View a video of the Convocation Ceremony.
Inspiring Young Researchers

The Sound of a Beating Heart
Do you remember the first time you heard the sound of a heart beat through a stethoscope? The skill of auscultation continues to be critical in medical school curricula across the nation. Read more in the Baltimore Sun article, "Hopkins' medical students learn to use their stethoscopes."
A Heart Healthy Break
On Valentine's Day, the JHM&SA hosted a table overflowing with heart healthy snacks in the Armstrong Medical Education Building. More than 100 students visited the table and entered a raffle to win a signed copy of Heart 411, a new book co-authored by Marc Gillinov, Med '88.
A special thank you to everyone who stopped by, and congratulations to raffle winner Morgan Broccoli, Class of 2015.
