Team Building

Weinberg 4A Team Building Exercise

Submitted by Sherri Jones R.N., Nurse Manager Weinberg 4A

The activitywas a 4 hour communication workshop in which Todd Frady, Organization Development and Training Specialist, came and moderated communication focused activities along with using the DISC profile on each staff member and went over all the results.

I started here as the nurse manager on Weinberg 4A 2 1/2 years ago and wanted to have a "team building" workshop for the staff, but wanted all the right players there. It took two long years but we are finally there. I wanted to go the next step in bringing them altogether as a team to look at personality, communication style, crisis management, and conflict management.

We had great results. Many of these nurses and other staff members have been working together for a while and they were amazed how very little they knew about each other. It was really good to see each of them interact: laughing, hugging, and most of all just letting their guard down and being themselves. Although Todd did not want to call it a "team building" event, that is exactly what happened.

This workshop exceeded my expectations. I got results I wanted and then some. Although it helped the staff interact with each other better, it also helped with the relationship between them and myself, physicians, and other disciplines.
