Creates a Learning Environment

Activities

  • Develop knowledge-sharing and learning systems so people can learn from each other efficiently.  Emphasize using lessons learned rather than making mistakes repeatedly.
  • Use delegation as a method to develop employees by helping them acquire new skills and knowledge.
  • When an employee comes to you with a work-related problem, first ask them how they will solve it.
  • Create a development plan for your team that specifically outlines skills, courses, etc. that the employee should develop and then help them do it.
  • Allow employees to learn from their mistakes.
  • Let an employee represent you at a meeting.
  • Put an employee in charge of a cross-functional task so they understand how the functions inter-relate.
  • Give an employee a temporary lateral assignment so they can see the organization from another perspective.
  • Connect people with mentors and role models for skills they are trying to develop.
