Privacy Practices

On April 14, 2003, Johns Hopkins and all healthcare providers nationwide implemented new processes to protect patient privacy under the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Patients now have greater access to their own medical records and more control over how their personal information is used. This new law affects the way we do business at Hopkins. All employees are required to complete training on how to apply HIPAA regulations on the job. To learn more, employees can log on to the HIPAA section of the Hopkins Intranet at http://www.insidehopkinsmedicine.org/hipaa. For the general public, including patients, information is available on the Hopkins Internet site at http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/privacy_notice/index.html.
