About the JHIS

The International Society was founded at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in 1959 to promote international goodwill, to assist international affiliates at Hopkins in their adjustment to life in the United States, and to provide opportunities for cultural, social and educational exchange.

The International Society provides information about housing, childcare, schools, insurance, driver's education, English as a second language (ESL) classes and other community resources to newly arrived internationals. An annual Welcome Reception as well as other social gatherings and trips to nearby places of interest are scheduled throughout the year.

Membership is open to any member of the JHMI/JHU campuses. Faculty, students, post-doctoral fellows, house staff, and family members are all welcome to join in International Society activities. The International Society is comprised of people representing countries and cultures from around the world!
