Introduction to the International Services Online Administrative Guide
The international community at The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) consists of more than 4,200 representatives from over 120 countries. According to the most recent report generated by the Office of International Student, Faculty, & Staff Services at the JHMI, the medical campus alone has approximately 2,500 international visitors (excluding dependents). These international visitors come to the JHMI as students, research fellows, post-doctoral fellows, associate research scientists, senior research scientists, faculty, staff, medical residents, clinical fellows, observers, consultants, and visiting guests. Their presence enriches our community. In large measure, it is the special presence of these international visitors that enables The Johns Hopkins University to retain its international reputation. The ability of the JHU to welcome these international visitors to our community is dependent upon a privilege extended to us by the United States government.
This on-line administrative guide is designed to familiarize campus administrators with the complex legal issues relating to the JHMI international population and to ensure that the University remains in compliance with all federal laws governing this population. This guide provides information about our office processes and procedures and seeks to address common questions regarding the JHMI international community. In addition, this guide also contains electronic versions of some of the forms our office uses most frequently.
Please remember that this guide is not all-inclusive. Departments and divisions are reminded to contact a qualified staff member in our office for specific information or assistance. For additional information about the mission of our office, the services provided, the staff members, and much more, you may want to refer to our office web site (http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/intlsvcs).
