The Johns Hopkins Dr. Mohan Swami Institute for International Medical Education (SIIME) was formally dedicated on May 19, 2011 with a number of dignitaries, including Dato' SriHaji MohdNajib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, in attendance.

Dr. David Nichols, a trained pediatrician and anesthesiologist, was installed as the inaugural director and served in the role from 2011 - November 2012.  Dr. David Hellmann is serving as interim director until a permanent replacement is named. 

Dr. Mohan Chellappa serves as associate director of SIIME and is President of Global Ventures for Johns Hopkins Medicine International. Dr. Chellappa, a surgeon by training, has worked on numerous international clinical consultancy activities, especially in the areas of clinical care program development, quality systems implementation and utilization of information technology in healthcare.
