Overview
Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI) signed an agreement with Pacífico Salud—a consortium of hospitals, laboratories and outpatient centers in Peru--in February of 2013, representing JHI’s largest collaboration in Latin America to date.
Together, JHI and Pacífico Salud will focus on improving patient safety and making care delivery and operations more efficient, as well as pursue opportunities to elevate nursing and introduce other innovative care concepts. The relationship will also create a viable platform from which to launch programs focused on such public health issues as the prevention and early detection of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Accreditation of the network hospitals, outpatient and laboratories is another primary goal. Currently, there are no Joint Commission International-accredited hospitals in a nation with more than 30 million citizens.
This is the first affiliation agreement for JHI in Peru, one of Latin America’s fastest growing economies, though JHI has been active in the region for more than a decade. It also represents a major step forward for Pacífico Salud as it advances its leadership role in the Peruvian private health care realm.
