Sanford Wu, M.I.A.
Mr. Wu leads business development and project management activities in the Asia Pacific region and his functional areas of expertise include general business and growth strategy, new enterprise development, capability building, due diligence and competitive assessment. In addition, Mr. Wu represents JHI on the Johns Hopkins University Global Compliance Executive Committee, an entity that facilitates more effective and coordinated support for global sponsored research and institutional collaborations.
Since joining JHI in 2006, he has played an integral role in growing Hopkins’ presence in the Middle East and Asia. Recently, he has led the expansion of consulting in the medical education sector. Most notably, Mr. Wu led the development of Hopkins’ first international project to create a fully integrated academic medical center that combines a teaching hospital, medical school and research enterprise.
Over the past 15 years, Mr. Wu has worked in consulting, finance and operational roles in a variety of industries, including health care, education, transportation, capital markets and luxury goods. Prior to joining JHI, he worked in a business development role for a publicly-listed company based in Hong Kong that invests in and contributes operating expertise and management to help grow health care and consumer services businesses in China in collaboration with the PRC Ministry of Health and Shanghai Health Bureau. Before that, Mr. Wu worked in financial risk management and investments for a large private family office in Hong Kong with over US$500 million in total assets.
Mr. Wu received a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and received a master’s degree in international affairs with a concentration in finance and business from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York. He studied in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Beijing University from 1998-2000. Mr. Wu is a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the board of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.
