Renata J. Matsson, Ph.D., J.D.

Renata Matsson

Dr. Matsson is an experienced international compliance attorney with over 25 years of experience in compliance governance, enterprise risk management and data privacy in the health care and life sciences industry.

As the head of compliance at Johns Hopkins Medicine International, she is responsible for compliance with laws that are applicable to Johns Hopkins Medicine International’s international activities, including the U.S Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other anti-corruption laws. She also helps assure that Johns Hopkins Medicine International has an effective program to prevent and detect violations of Johns Hopkins Medicine International policies and of any laws for which Johns Hopkins Medicine International is potentially liable.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins Medicine International, Dr. Matsson worked for a Swedish government think tank specializing in country risk assessments of the former Soviet-led Communist bloc of Eastern Europe, Mongolia, Cuba and Vietnam; headed research and development, commercial compliance and risk management at several major multinational companies, including AstraZeneca (formerly Astra, Sweden), Eisai (Japan) and Sanofi (France); and served as chief compliance and privacy officer at Joslin Diabetes Center, a Harvard-affiliated academic medical center in Boston.

She holds a Ph.D. in Russian history and a law degree, both from the University of Vienna, Austria, and postgraduate degrees from the Collège d’Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and the Harvard School of Public Health, with a concentration in health law.
