David Bernstein, Johns Hopkins Medicine International board member

Mr. David Bernstein is a consultant with Carisam-Samuel Meisel. Carisam-Samuel Meisel (SCM) is a ship chandling business. The company distributes goods for on-board consumption to cargo, commercial, and cruise ships, as well as airlines, diplomats, resorts and hotels. Some products include water, soda, wine, beer, liquor and tobacco. The company also has duty-free stores located in Washington, D.C., and Miami. Major customers include Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean International; they supply at least 117 cruise ships. CSM also services about 1,700 commercial and cargo ships, including tankers, freighters and container ships. Contracts with major airlines include: American, US Airways, Air Jamaica and many more. Resorts clientele are: Sandals, Atlantis, Club Med and Four Seasons. The company is true to its roots, still providing services to more than 900 embassies and consulates as its founding group did in the 1920s. CSM has offices in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Miami. 

Mr. Bernstein was co-founder and chairman of World Duty Free Americans, Inc. and President of Diplomatic Duty Free Shops, Ltd. In 1997, World Duty Free Americas was acquired by BAA (British Airports Authority, Inc.).

Mr. Bernstein was the former Board Chairman of Sinai Hospital, former Board Member of the Associated:  Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, former Board Member, Levindale Home and former Member of the Park School Parents Association. He is an emeritus Trustee of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Board.
