Who Should Attend? Perioperative nurses, CRNAs, nurse managers, surgeons, anesthesiologists, patient safety officers, individuals moving into a safety oversight role, quality improvement professionals and risk managers.
Course Objectives. Key to our success is Johns Hopkins Medicine’s approach of developing a culture of safety; teamwork & communications; and engaging front line staff to apply the best evidence into actionable performance in the day-to-day practice in the OR. This course will help participants:
1. Understand the science of safety and the role that culture of safety plays in operating room (OR) improvement
2. Create a comprehensive unit-based safety program in OR
3. Implement specific interventions to improve multidisciplinary teamwork and communication and how this can improve patient outcomes
4. Identify evidence-based bundles and toolkits to reduce preventable infections and complications commonly associated with perioperative care such as surgical site infections and wrong site surgery
5. Engage front-line staff to identify ways of implementing best practice in their unique OR environments
