Mission and Vision
The mission of the Center is to advance innovation for ideal patient care for Hopkins – and beyond. Our vision is a patient-centered culture with multi-disciplinary teams empowered to identify, create and evaluate healthcare system solutions.
The Center, in collaboration with the larger Johns Hopkins academic medical institution, has implemented a comprehensive set of quality and patient safety improvement initiatives involving dedicated healthcare professionals at all levels and across multiple departments. The Center has used the Institute of Medicine aims as a framework for its efforts, linked by a common thread of measurement.
The Center’s purpose is to:
- Facilitate innovative, patient-centered approaches that enable Hopkins to be the safest place to receive patient care
- Assess and improve the culture of safety and teamwork
- Achieve marked improvement in evidence-based care
- Improve the efficiency and timeliness of patient care
- Build local capacity to analyze, improve, and maintain performance
- Encourage studies and publications on safety and quality improvement that expand the knowledge base and disseminate effective approaches
- Work with other hospitals to aid them in improving many areas of patient safety

Awards
Since 1889, Johns Hopkins has been a leader, in both teaching and research. Johns Hopkins Hospital has been consistently ranked among the best of the best hospitals in the United States by the U.S. News & World Report. The School of Medicine is one of the best anywhere, and the Bloomberg School of Public Health is renowned for contributions worldwide improving medicine and the health of large populations. Johns Hopkins is annually the top recipient of research funds from the National Institutes of Health.
Johns Hopkins' patient safety and quality improvemnet programs have been recognized nationally through such awards as: the American Hospital Association McKesson Quest for Quality Prize; the American Medical Group Association Acclaim Award; 2008 New York Festivals Film & Video Awards; and Best New Advancement in Patient Safety Disclosures Award at the Health Care Research and Innovations Congress.
