Summer 2010
Winning 2nd National HealthGrades Award
For a second consecutive year, Howard County General Hospital: A Member of Johns Hopkins Medicine has been ranked in the top five percent of hospitals in the nation in a new study of clinical quality. HCGH is one of only 269 hospitals in the nation that received this distinction from HealthGrades for 2010.
According to the eighth annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence study, HCGH and the other hospitals in the top five percent nationally demonstrated patient outcomes far better than those of other hospitals. On average, patients admitting to these hospitals had risk-adjusted mortality rates 29 percent lower than all other hospitals. Risk-adjusted complication rates were nine percent lower than all other hospitals on average.
