Columbia, MD – The Columbia Foundation, Howard County’s Community Foundation, has awarded a $12,000 grant for general program support to the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center (CMCRC), a service of Howard County General Hospital: A Member of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Celebrating its 15th year of serving the community, the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center provides support and assistance for cancer patients, their families and caregivers. The CMCRC offers the following services to all oncology patients regardless of where they receive their treatment or their ability to pay:
An oncology social worker and trained staff help cancer patients, families and care givers navigate the array of services needed during the cancer journey. This includes individual counseling, support groups, wellness classes, patient navigation, and connecting patients with additional community resources such as transportation to treatments, nutritional counseling, and financial, legal and insurance assistance.
Educational resources include a full lending library tied to the Howard County Library system, online computer access to major cancer databases, a comprehensive directory of local and regional resources, informative brochures from the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society, and ongoing lectures and discussions on cancer-related topics such as nutrition, meditation, and self-care.
Salon services for cancer patients are offered
at the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center.
Licensed professionals from local salons and medical equipment companies provide consultations and fittings for wigs and breast prostheses, as well as, post-surgical and support garments; hats, caps and turbans; hair and wig styling; and facials and skin care services. The CMCRC maintains an extensive wig and prosthesis inventory to accommodate all patients.
Through a creative partnership with Healing Point, Inc., CMCRC offers acupuncture, therapeutic massage and additional counseling services. Healing Point also provides on-going yoga classes and gentle movement classes.
