“Howard’s Playground” Opens at the Mall in Columbia

Columbia, MD – A new health-themed play area is now open at The Mall in Columbia. Sponsored by Howard County General Hospital: A Member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, “Howard’s Playground” was unveiled on Thursday, Nov. 29 by hospital representatives, Howard County Government officials and representatives from the Mall. During the opening ceremonies, officials spoke while a couple of dozen youngsters tested the new play equipment, which includes customized interactive characters, made of soft foam materials, include a healthy snack climber made of giant vegetables, a water bottle tunnel, a bookworm bridge and an interactive ambulance driven by a turtle.

Designed by Playtime, the soft play area is designed to capture the attention of all ages, stimulate discovery and engage imaginations, while teaching children about the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle. Children can follow “Healthy Howard” as he teaches them important lessons about staying hydrated, exercising, eating healthy and cleanliness.

Howard County General Hospital and the Mall in Columbia are partnering to improve the health of Howard County. “Howard’s Playground” is just the first of many joint initiatives. Future events include various health screenings and fairs.
