Here’s an overview of the five different categories of websites that now put surfers in touch with Hopkins doctors.

· InfoNet (http://infonet.welch.jhu.edu) offers a wide view of academic, medical and administrative activities, with useful information for consumers or medical professionals. It can be accessed by content type (i.e., Health Care, Research, People), institution, or through a more specific search.

· JHMI Affiliates server (http://www.med.jhu.edu) is a compilation of Web pages maintained by more than 130 different departments and centers with links to associated areas of interest. Some of Hopkins’ most frequently accessed sites, such as the Wilmer Eye Institute, the Brady Urological Institute, and the Pancreas Cancer Web, can be found here.

· InteliHealth (http://www.intelihealth.com) is a commercial venture, offering a compilation of consumer health information. A joint project of Hopkins and Aetna U.S. Healthcare, it also includes content from institutions such as the National Institutes of Health, Reuters and UPI news services, and the National Library of Medicine. Hopkins is the major content provider with information about a number of health issues and medical conditions and daily question-and-answer columns with Hopkins doctors. InteliHealth is featured on Ameria Online, PointCast, and AltaVista and distributes daily health news to the web sites of more than 400 newspapers and television stations.

· Johns Hopkins Medicine home page (http://hopkins.med.jhu.edu) is administered by the Office of Public Affairs and presents breaking news from Johns Hopkins Medicine, the online version of this magazine, background information about the Institution and links to information for patients, health care professionals, alumni, student applicants, businesses and news media.

· A number of stand-alone sites also are linked to other sites. The Johns Hopkins AIDS service (http://hopkins-aids.edu) is one. Nationally recognized, it includes a popular Q&A by Joel Gallant, M.D., director of Hopkins’ outpatient AIDS clinic, as well as the full text of “Medical Management of HIV Infection,” the definitive care manual by John Bartlett, M.D., director of the Division of Infectious Diseases.
