Andrea A. Zachary, Ph. D
IMMUNOGENETICS LABORATORY

Dr. Zachary has a Ph.D. in genetics from Care Western Reserve University and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. With more than 30 years experience in immunogenetics and transplantation immunology, Dr. Zachary has previously held positions as Director of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Chief of the Transplantation Section at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, NIH. She is a past president and a member of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics and a member of the American Society of Transplantation, the American Association of Immunologists, the American Society of Human Genetics, and the International Transplant Society.

Dr. Zachary has participated in five international and three national workshops in histocompatibility testing; been an invited speaker at numerous international, national, and regional scientific meetings; served two terms on the Board of Directors of the United Network for Organ Sharing; served as a member of the planning committee and a session co-chair of the 1991 Surgeon Generals Workshop on Organ Donation; and has conducted educational workshops for several professional societies.

Dr. Zachary has published book chapters and journal papers on histocompatibility, immunogenetics, population genetics, and policy issues in organ transplantation. She was co-editor of the first and second editions of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory Manual and is a member of the editorial boards of the journals Human Immunology, Transgene, and Transplantation.

Dr. Zachary is one of the Founders of and a member of the program and course faculties of the South-Eastern Organ Procurement Foundation Histocompatibility Specialists Course and teaches graduate level courses in immunogenetics and transplantation immunology.

Dr. Zachary has twice been Director of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics' Laboratory Accreditation Program and currently serves on numerous committees of professional scientific societies.
