The Immunogenetics Laboratory of the Johns Hopkins University is one of the premier laboratories in its field. It was one of the first laboratories to investigate the field of immunogenetics and apply it to clinical practice. The laboratory’s depth and experience are reflected each year in the results of proficiency tests and cell exchanges. The laboratory routinely places among the top performers internationally.

Members of the Laboratory have played an integral role in the foundation and ongoing development of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), the professional society representing scientists in those fields.

The Immunogenetics Laboratory has received international recognition for research, technological excellence, and outstanding clinical service throughout it is more than 30 years of existence. The laboratory scientific and administrative directors have qualifications that are unmatched in the region.

Mary S. Leffell, Ph.D. and Andrea A. Zachary, Ph.D.
Dr. Leffell has a Ph.D. in immunology and is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology and of the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. She has over 21 years experience in transplantation immunology, histocompatibility, and immunogenetics. She is a former president of ASHI and has served twice on the Board of Directors of the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).
Dr. Zachary has a Ph.D. in genetics and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. She has over 30 years experience in transplantation immunology, immunogenetics and population. She is a former president of ASHI and has twice served on the UNOS Board of Directors.
Assistant Director of Clinical Testing and Administration
