Pediatric Orthopaedic Procedures
Overview
Pediatric orthopaedic procedures can be used to treat children with a variety of orthopaedic conditions. These conditions may include scoliosis, kyphosis, fractures, tumors and many other injuries, diseases, bone deformities and congenital disorders.
Pediatric orthopaedic procedures range from noninvasive procedures like splinting, casting, bracing and orthotics to surgery. Surgical procedures typically require a different approach when they are performed on a child versus an adult. Children’s bones are still growing so special care should be taken, especially when operating on or near a growth plate. While surgery is invasive by nature, certain minimally invasive approaches exist to help children heal faster and spend less time in the hospital.
