Patient Satisfaction and Quality

Doctor speaks with patient

To ensure that patients’ needs are consistently being met, Johns Hopkins Medicine participates in the HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) survey. In October 2006, hospitals around the country began surveying patients through HCAHPS, representing a fundamental change in health care. Through HCAHPS, hospitals are now held to a higher standard because patients are given the tools to make valuable comparisons between hospitals, and public reporting enhances hospital accountability and quality.

We are proud to announce that in 2016, the Kelly Gynecologic Oncology Service and the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics’ HCAHPS scores ranked among the highest in the nation. This ranking denotes excellence in the following areas:

  • Communications between patients and hospital staff
  • Staff responsiveness to patient needs
  • Quality of environment
  • Clear instructions upon discharge
  • The likelihood of recommending Johns Hopkins to a friend or loved one
