GSA mediated Email Lists
    The Graduate Student Association moderates a variety of email lists that provide various services for graduate students including announcements about latest events, sharing of laboratory reagents, sharing of housing opportunities, and interesting news and changes in school policy. The list also functions to allow individual graduate students to communicate with the rest of the graduate student body. Membership to these list sis highly recommended, especially for students new to the goings on at the Johns Hopkins medical campus. Individual students may find more information about these lists and how to subscribe and unsubscribe them as listed below.

General Subscription Instructions

Subscriptions to mailing lists can be managed through the following website: http://lists.johnshopkins.edu. Alternatively, you can use the following email-based method for managing your subscriptions.

To subscribe to a mailing list, send an email to sympa@lists.johnshopkins.edu

In the subject of the message, write: SUBSCRIBE LISTNAME
where LISTNAME is the name of the list you wish to subscribe to (i.e. allgrad, reagents-allgrad, events-allgrad, grad-housing).

To unsubscribe to a mailing list, do the same, except write: UNSUBSCRIBE LISTNAME
where LISTNAME is the name of the list you wish to subscribe to (i.e. allgrad, reagents-allgrad, events-allgrad, grad-housing).

To configure your subscription to combine all messages into a single message on a daily basis, do the same, except write: SET LISTNAME DIGEST
where LISTNAME is the name of the list you wish to subscribe to (i.e. allgrad, reagents-allgrad, events-allgrad, grad-housing).

To send an email to a mailing list, send an email to LISTNAME@lists.johnshopkins.edu
where LISTNAME is the name of the list you wish to subscribe to (i.e. allgrad, reagents-allgrad, events-allgrad, grad-housing).

NOTE: All messages will be reviewed before being forwarded to list subscribers.

Current guidelines for approval for lists

  • Messages should be Hopkins-related, e.g., GSA events, PDO events, talk announcements, etc.
  • The topic should be of interest to SOM graduate students
  • Messages that will not be approved include any relating to classified advertisements (buying/selling car, bed, etc.), advertisements for events not related to Hopkins, political arguments/discussions, and other spam.



  • Allgrad Email List

    Allgradwill be used primarily by the PDO and other faculty and staff-run organizations to communicate with the student body. This is also where GSA meetings and lectures will be announced.



    Reagents-allgrad Email List

    Reagents-allgrad provides a means for graduate students to request for and share reagents.



    Events-allgrad Email List

    Events-allgrad is used primarily to advertise GSA-run social events. It may also be used to advertise events that graduate students are invited to from other schools, such as SPH, Carey business school, nursing school, GRO or the Medical Student Society.



    Grad-housing Email List

    Grad-housing provides a means to advertise housing opportunities form JHMI graduate students in Baltimore. All graduate students can send and receive mailings from this list. Subscription to the list is voluntary. Housing list emails that have completed review by the moderator will be sent in digest form once a week, on Fridays at 5pm.
