GIM Faculty Promotions Guide

GIM Faculty Promotions

For All Promotions

1) Talk with the Chief 12 months ahead.

2) Put CV into required format. (Number all 'products' consecutively.)

3) Get copies of successful nomination letters from GIM colleagues.

4) Draft list of referees.

5) Draft outline of letter for Chief to edit.

For Promotion to Associate Professor

Visit the Promotion Committee's web page: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/som/faculty/appc/.

Begin drafting the APPC's Nomination Manager.

Review with Chief; Send questions to APPC at APPC@jhmi.edu.; Chief must sign off.

Finalize list of referees: 7 ‘true’ externals (non-JH; no prior collaboration) + 7 other (JH + collaborators).

Revise letter. See example of nomination letter on APPC website.

Finalize Nomination Manager.

Complete Promotion Materials Checklist (Associate Professor).  NOTE: This list is more complete than that listed on the "Promotion Packet Contents" page of the APPC website.

Complete Transmittal Sheet.

Finalize letter.

Once Chief signs the letter and the Nomination Manager PDF, send everything to DOMCredentialing@jhmi.edu in DOM. The forms call for multiple hard copies, but Mary Calini, our credentialing manager, prefers to receive electronic files instead.

Revise based on DOM feedback. Resubmit to DOM.

Once DOM approves, you’ll get notice and DOM will send to SOM. DOM process takes 3-4 months.

Review in SOM typically takes 9-12 months, including summer breaks and time to gather referee letters.
