CASE-2 Rotation

The required CASE-2 rotation now includes four to six weeks of research experience, including a new research curriculum. All residents are required to complete a tangible product of their experience. The curriculum team has identifed specific goals and objectives for this component. Residents will discuss their plans with Dr. Merlo prior to the rotation. Please review the information below specific to the Clinical Research Track or to the Basic Science Track.

Clinical Research Track

The goal of this rotation is to prepare residents to submit an IRB proposal for clinical research that is strong with regard to science, statistics, ethics, and logistics.

Basic Science Track

New Requirements (Starting in 2008)

Upon completion of CASE-2, all residents are required to submit PowerPoint slides (10-12 slides, including one cartoon) to summarize research activities during the rotation. Slides will be archived and posted on the web in PDF format. Each month two research projects will be selected for presentation at one of the noon conferences.

For projects with results, the slide presentation should include the following components:

1) Introduction/Background/Context
2) Main Hypothesis
3) Study Design
4) Participants
5) Data Collection
6) Main Outcomes
7) Analytic Approach
8) Results
9) Strengths and Limitations
10) Significance.

For research proposals, the following components should be included:

1) Introduction/Background/Context
2) Main Hypothesis
3) Study Design
4) Participants
5) Data Collection
6) Main Outcomes
7) Analytic Approach
