GIM’s Assistant Professor Lenny Feldman, MD, has won the Award of Excellence for Research Abstract at the Association of Program Directors of Internal Medicine’s Spring Conference held in Orlando, FL. The award presented on May 1st was one of only two research awards granted. Dr. Feldman’s abstract was entitled “Do Internal Medicine Interns Practice Patient-centered Communication? A Critical Look at the Patient Encounter Behind Closed Doors.” The study sought to discover the frequency with which interns practiced four behaviors that the researchers identified as “etiquette-based medicine.” Dr. Feldman hold several key positions within GIM’s educational programs for interns. GIM co-authors on the award-winning study are GIM Fellow Dr. Lauren Block, hospitalist Timothy Niessen, and jointly-appointed GIM faculty members Dr. Albert Wu and Dr. Sanjay Desai.
