GIM's Associate Professor Claire Snyder, PhD, MHS, and jointly appointed Professor Albert Wu, MD, MPH, find themselves starring in a You Tube video entitled "Web-based System Helps Doctors, Patients Communicate" published by Els Global Medical News. In the video, which debuted on May 23rd, Drs. Snyder and Wu explain the Web-based survey system called Patient Viewpoint that they were instrumental in developing here at Johns Hopkins. The survey helps physicians get a better understanding of the patients' less tangible symptoms, such as emotional health and fatigue. By being tied into the university's electronic medical records, doctors can order the surveys as they prescribe other
tests.
The survey, its development, and the recommendations for action with which it prompts physicians are detailed in an article authored by Drs. Snyder and Wu, together with Elizabeth F. Hughes, RN, BSN, CHPN, from the School of Nursing and Michael A. Carducci, MD, AEGON Professor in Prostate Cancer Research at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center and published online on May 18th by the Journal of Supportive Oncology. The article is titled "What Can I Do? Recommendations for Responding to Issues Identified by Patient-Reported Outcomes Assessments Used in Clinical Practice."
