Two Hopkins GIM researchers won awards at the Mid-Atlantic Regional SGIM meeting held last Friday at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, DE. GIM assistant professor Wendy Bennett, MD, MPH, carried off the 2012 Clinician-Investigator Award.
Second-year GIM Fellow Tabor Flickinger, MD, was presented with the award for the 2012 Best Research Poster in the Fellows Category for the poster of her study "Motivational Interviewing by HIV Health Care Providers is Associated with Patient Commitment to Reduce Unsafe Sexual Behavior." The study is an analysis of audio-recorded clinical encounters between HIV patients and their doctors, looking at the counseling techniques that doctors use to help patients reduce risky sexual behavior.Dr. Flickinger's primary mentor on the research is Dr. Mary Catherine Beach.
