GIM Fellowship Alum Publishes in NEJM

Former GIM Fellow Robyn Neblett Fanfair is the first author of an original article published December 6th in the New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Fanfair is an officer in the Epidemic Intelligence Service of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA. Her published article, titled “Necrotizing Cutaneous Mucormycosis after a Tornado in Joplin, Missouri, in 2011” reports on a cluster of fungal infections that followed the disastrous tornado in Joplin last year and the significant number of cases in which the patient died. Her article alerts the medical community to the threat that fungal infections can present following a natural disaster.
