GIM Fellow Nisa Maruthur, MD, MHS, is first-named author of an article in the Journal of General Internal Medicine's "Online First" service has been attracting attention in the wider online publishing world. The article reports a study whose results indicate that obese women are less likely than others to report having had a recent mammogram. The authors find that this phenomenon is especially marked in white women. As obese women experience higher postmenopausal breast cancer risk, morbidity, and mortality, absence of screening is especially dangerous. Dr. Maruthur's co-authors are GIM Fellowship alumna Shari Bolen, MD, MPH, and GIM faculty members Frederick Brancati, MD, MHS, and Jeanne Clark, MD, MPH.
