Census Data Reveal Uninsured Middle Class

Census data released August 29, 2006, reveal that the number of Americans without health care coverage continues to increase. While an overall increase of uninsured was expected, the data provide evidence that the fastest growing sector of uninsured is the middle class. The census data show that in 2005, 14.1 percent of Americans in households with annual incomes between $50,000 and $74,999 did not have health insurance, compared to 11.8 percent in 2002.
