Dr. Appel Awarded UO1 Project

Congratulations to the Division's Dr. Larry Appel, primary investigator on a new U01 Research Project Cooperative Agreement from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The project, entitled "Integrated Clinical-Behavioral Interventions to Accomplish Weight Loss," is a 5-year, 3-group, randomized trial to determine the effectiveness of an "in-person" versus "remote" integrated clinical-behavioral intervention (ICBI) to lower weight and control hypertension. The ICBIs will be theory-guided interventions, implementing well-established behavioral techniques to accomplish weight loss, and each will use a web-based tool to facilitate communication among counselors, participants and clinicians; self-monitoring by participants; and feedback by counselors and clinicians.
