Dr. Bass and Teammates Headed to Hawaii

Congratulations to the Division's Dr. Eric Bass and his teammates on winning the United States Tennis Association's Sectional Championship in Newport News, Virginia, on August 11-13, 2006. After winning the Maryland District Championship earlier this year, Dr. Bass traveled with his team to play in the USTA's 4.0 Men's Sectional Championships against the champions from Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Virginia. Eric played the #1 singles position and won his first match (6-0, 6-1) and second match (6-0, 6-2). On the last day, his team played the defending sectional champs from Virginia, needing to win at least 4 of 5 matches. The Maryland team won 4-1, with Eric contributing a win after winning a 3rd set tiebreaker 10-8. By winning the Sectional Championship, the Maryland team has earned the right to play in the National Championships in Hawaii in late October. Good luck to the team!
