Hopkins GIM: What's New

OSLER CENTER ANNOUNCES SMALL GRANT PROGRAM

The Osler Center For Clinical Excellence is pleased to announce its small grant program, which for 2006 is able to fund 3-6 grants in the $5,000 to $10,000 range. The Center invites applications for innovative projects related to the education of health professionals in how to humanize medical care and improve its quality. Topics may include, but need not be limited to:

  • Communicating effectively with patients and sharing decision making
  • Providing care that recognizes patient and family values, and is culturally sensitive
  • Integrating the best medical knowledge into each patient’s care
  • Preventing disease and promoting health
  • Promoting systems of care that are responsive to patient needs

Requirements:

  • The principal investigator must be a Hopkins GIM faculty member or fellow (with a GIM faculty member mentor)
  • The application must address the mission of the Center

Priority will be given to grant applications that:

  • Involve both the JHBMC and JHH campuses
  • Have the potential to publish and communicate new understandings
  • Have the potential for future external funding
  • Have the potential to influence medical education broadly

Application (page limit: 6 pages, single spaced, 11 or 12-pt font):

  • Title Page with Title of Project, Names of Principal and Other Investigators
  • Background/Needs Assessment: A referenced section justifying need for the proposed project
  • Goals and Specific Measurable Objectives (alternatively you can name this section Hypotheses and Goals of the Project)
  • Educational Methods (when relevant)
  • Evaluation Methods (or Research Methods)
  • Likely Impact at and Beyond Johns Hopkins (including expected products and plans for dissemination)
  • Budget and Budget Justification (Funds may not be used for salary support.  They may be used for other project expenses such as research assistant or statistical support, data entry, evaluation costs, etc.)
  • Biosketches of Principal and Other Investigators (one page each, see attached format, not included in 6 page application limit)

Application Due Date:  May 15, 2006

Announcement of Awards:  By June 26, 2006

Award Start Date:  July 1, 2006
