SGIM Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting a Major Success
Several Hopkins GIM faculty and fellows participated in the Society of General Internal Medicine's Mid-atlantic regional meeting on Friday, March 10, 2006, at the Penn State College of Medicine/Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This year's theme was "General Internal Medicine: Advocating for Patients, Students, and Communities" The day included a plenary speaker, workshops, as well as abstract and clinical vignette presentations. Additionally, a special medical student session was offered to assist students in exploring careers in general medicine.
The Division's Dr. Bimal Ashar was President of the Mid-Atlantic Regional SGIM from March 2005 to March 2006, during which time he organized and implemented new initiatives for regional members, represented the region at the National level, and organized last Friday's regional meeting. Dr. Mark Hughes also presented an oral abstract and led a moderated discussion.
The Division is also proud to recognize poster presentations made by two current fellows: Dr. Emily S. Tonorezos, and Dr. Bryan Bordeaux. Dr. Tonorezos presented "Neighborhood violence is a risk factor for feeling depressed" (authors: Emily S. Tonorezos MD, Patrick Breysse PhD MHS, Peyton Eggleston MD, Elizabeth Matsui MD, Jean Curtin-Brosnan MA, Gregory B.
