DGIM Faculty Honored at SGIM Annual Meeting
Dr. Neil Powe was the 2005 recipient of the Society of General Internal Medicine’s John M. Eisenberg National Award for Career Achievement in Research, which was presented at the SGIM Plenary Session, Friday, May 13, in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Eisenberg was a well respected expert in health services research, and former Chair of Medicine at Georgetown and Director of AHRQ. The Award recognizes Dr. Powe's enormous impact on the field, both in his research, and in the research produced by his many trainees.
Drs. John Flynn and Steve Sisson both received SGIM's National Awards for Scholarship in Medical Education. Dr. Flynn for Scholarship in Clinical Practice, and Dr. Sisson for Scholarship of Integration.
Dr. Gail Berkenblit was the 2005 recipient of SGIM's Lawrence S. Linn Award for HIV Research. The $10,000 award will support Dr. Berkenblit's research on quality of life for patients with HIV. It is named for Dr. Linn, a sociologist and health services researcher at UCLA who was a pioneer in the field.
