On October 23, 2009, Edward Miller, MD, Dean of the Medical Faculty and CEO of Hopkins Medicine announced that a new policy on Professional Commitment is replacing the Conflict of Commitment policy. According to Dr. Miller, the new policy ”clarifies the primary obligations of full-time and salaried part-time faculty, outlines the requirements for reporting outside activities, and details the procedures for reporting, review and approval of these activities. The policy also includes important provisions regarding medical practice outside of Johns Hopkins and speaking for industry.”
The Dean requests that faculty members review the policy, which is available online at http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/som/faculty/policies/facultypolicies/conflict_commitment.html. The policy can also be found in the “Useful Links” section of the GIM website.
