| GIM Professor and Director of the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research, Dr. Neil Powe, was the honoree at a luncheon Thursday to celebrate his designation as the Johns Hopkins University’s newest Distinguished Service Professor. He joins an elite company of only 27 other professors in the School of Medicine to hold that title, which is awarded by the University “to recognize exceptional achievements made by select members of the senior faculty.” | |
Speakers at the event were Dr. Myron Weisfeldt, Chair of the Department of Medicine; Mr. Richard Grossi, CFO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, on behalf of Dean Edward Miller, MD; Dr. Fred Brancati, Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine; Dr. Mary Catherine Beach and Dr. Ebony Boulware, both members of the Welch Center Core Faculty who were mentored by Dr. Powe; and Dr. Susan MacDonald, Associate Chair of the Department of Medicine, on behalf of Dr. David Levine, Samsung Professor of Medicine, Core Faculty member of the Berman Institute of Bioethics and master mentor. Dr. Powe was honored as “a recognized educator in clinical research who has changed national policy on how physicians care for their patients, and a mentor to other leaders in medicine, cultivating young scientists, especially minority groups, and leaving a legacy of talent at institutions across the country.” All speakers noted Dr. Powe’s generosity with this time and efforts on behalf of other scholars.
