GIM faculty member Dr. Eric Bass has recently been elected to the status of Fellow in the American College of Physicians (ACP). The ACP’s announcement of Dr. Bass’s election notes that “Fellowship is an honor achieved by those recognized by their peers for personal integrity, superior competence in internal medicine, professional accomplishment, and demonstrated scholarship.” The American College of Physicians (ACP) is the nation's largest medical specialty society. | medicine and related subspecialties as well as medical students. Its mission is to enhance the quality and effectiveness of health care by fostering excellence and professionalism in the practice of medicine, largely through commitment to continuing education. ACP publishes journals and books, among them its flagship journal Annals of Internal Medicine, the most widely-cited medical specialty journal in the world. In the area of public policy, ACP's activities include research and development of policy statements and government relations activities designed to shape decisions of the legislative and administrative sectors of government. After many years of cooperation, the American Society for Internal Medicine merged with ACP in 1998. Dr. Bass holds the rank of Professor of Medicine in GIM, and served for many years as the GIM Fellowship Director. He is also Professor of Epidemiology and of Health Policy and Management in the Bloomberg School of Public Health. In addition, Dr. Bass is the Director of the Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice Center, as well as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Progress in Community Health Partnerships: Research, Education, and Action.
