Dr. Padmini Ranasinghe Elected to AMA Post

GIM’s Padmini Ranasinghe, MD, MPH, was notified on May 15th
that she has been elected to the Governing Council of the AMA’s International Medical Graduates (IMG) Section. The section is
the principal contact for 35, 800 IMG members of AMA. The IMG Section points out that one fourth of medical residents in the United States are International Medical Graduates.

The IMG Section seeks to articulate the viewpoints and concerns of physicians who trained abroad and pursues activities in numerous areas of interest to IMGs, among them physician workforce issues, leadership development, licensure issues, and outreach to ethnic communities.

Dr. Ranasinghe earned her MD degree at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka, and her MPH degree at Yale University. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and member of the GIM Hospitalist program. Her selection to the IMG Governing Council was made through a national online voting by IMG members.
