Part-time GIM Faculty Member Elected ACP Fellow
Part-time GIM faculty member Dr. Gregg Pokrywka has just been elected to Fellowship status in the American College of Physicians. The American College of Physicians (ACP) is the nation's largest medical specialty society. ACP membership includes about 124,000 physicians in general internal medicine and related subspecialties as well as medical students. Its mission is to enhance the quality and effectiveness of health care by fostering excellence and professionalism in the practice of medicine, largely through commitment to continuing education. ACP publishes journals and books, among them its flagship journal Annals of Internal Medicine, the most widely-cited medical specialty journal in the world. In the area of public policy, ACP's activities include research and development of policy statements and government relations activities designed to shape decisions of the legislative and administrative sectors of government. After many years of cooperation, the American Society for Internal Medicine merged with ACP in 1998.
Dr. Pokrywka is an Inaugural Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology, an independent certifying organization for physicians specializing in Clinical Lipidology, and he serves as Director of the Baltimore Lipid Center. He is also recognized as a Certified Menopause Practitioner by the North American Menopause Society, a nonprofit scientific organization devoted to promoting women's health and quality of life through an understanding of menopause.
