Welcome from the Director of EducationSamuel C. Durso, MD, AGSF
Educational Programs

Welcome to the Education Website of the Johns Hopkins Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology. We hope that students, residents, potential and current fellows, or other health care professionals interested in our educational programs will find the information they are seeking.

Our educational mission is to train the future leaders of geriatric medicine and translate the latest knowledge in geriatric medicine and gerontology into practice.

The educational programs of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology span the depth and breadth of clinical and research activities of its acclaimed faculty. Whether you are a student, house officer, faculty member or health care provider, at this or another institution, the Division offers an educational program that is likely to interest you. These include opportunities to work with expert geriatricians and health care teams practicing in the full continuum of clinical services for older adults or to explore advances in the latest research in molecular biology, clinical outcomes, epidemiology, population-based research, and health services research and innovative research in education. In addition the Division provides educational programs for practicing physicians, nurses and other health care providers in the community.

In addition to a rich educational environment, the Division is committed to increasing the diversity of leaders and health care providers in clinical geriatrics, research, health care policy, administration and education. For instance our innovative Summer Scholars Program is designed to introduce medical students from underrepresented minority groups to the excitement of a career in geriatric medicine and gerontology. Already participants are achieving national recognition for research projects they have performed as Summer Scholars and are moving into advanced training opportunities in the field of geriatrics and gerontology.

The faculty of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology hope that you will explore our educational Web site, contact us about programs that interest you and let us know if there is any information we can provide to help you know us better.

Sincerely,

Samuel C. Durso, M.D., MBA, AGSF
