Urinary incontinence is not a problem that older adults should have to live with. At the Johns Hopkins Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology, our experts work together as a multidisciplinary team to thoroughly evaluate urinary incontinence and provide comprehensive and individualized treatment recommendations.
What you can expect
They can talk with you about the factors that may affect your situation, such as certain medical conditions, medications, and the types of fluids you drink. The assessment includes:
- A thorough history of symptoms
- Physical examination
- Treatment options
- Patient education
The program also focuses on behavioral interventions such as:
- Pelvic floor exercises
- Toileting programs
- Fluid and dietary education
- Use of bladder records to evaluate success
The team works with the patient, as well as family members and caregivers when needed.
