Medical Genetics Curriculum

Our residency program provides a unique opportunity, presenting  trainees with endless options and resources that will not only markedly enhance their ability and skills as a clinician scientist, but also prepare them for the ongoing challenges and rapid advancements in the field of genetic/genomic medicine.

During this three-year program, the trainees will have complete access to all the training and educational opportunities offered by  JHU.  The core curriculum for the program will include comprehensive training opportunities in:

  • Biochemical genetics
  • Dysmorphology
  • Cytogenetics
  • Molecular genetics
  • Cancer Genetics
  • Prenatal Genetics

What distinguishes the Johns Hopkins University Medical Genetics Residency Training Program from other genetic residencies is the opportunity for trainees to participate in "selectives," a series of state of the art, innovative rotations.  The residents will be able to select the rotations that best suit their particular area(s) of interest:

  • Medical bioinformatics
  • Pharmacogenetics
  • Policy and Ethics
  • Chemical genomics
  • Genetic therapy
  • Palliative care and Imaging

Finally, residents will transition from their comprehensive clinical genetics training to a research project, with the mentor of their choice.
