More information on the Johns Hopkins Children's Center Web Site

Since July 2001, the Department of Pediatrics and the Institute for Genetic Medicine have offered a five-year program of combined training in pediatrics and medical genetics leading to certification by both the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Medical Genetics. Residents are encouraged to complete a sixth year of laboratory research.

The first year of the program is the same as the intern year for pediatric residents. The next three years each include six months of training in pediatrics and six months in genetics. The final year of training focuses entirely in genetics.

Applicants interested in this combined training pathway must submit their application through ERAS for the Department of Pediatrics AND submit a separate application on this site.  You will be contacted by Adel Gilbert, MS, CGC Genetic Medicine Education Coordinator for the Institute of Genetic Medicine, to arrange special genetic interview, if you are offered an interview in Pediatrics. Additional information about the Board requirements for this combined training program is available at The American Board of Pediatrics website. To learn more about the training experience, please read "Training a Young Clinician to Think Genetically."
