Application Process for Elective Rotation or Observership in
Clinical Genetics
Visiting medical students should review the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Visiting Student Information page.
We require a completed application, letter of recommendation from your Dean and a transcript of your record, sent directly by your medical school. Electives are limited to no more than one nine week period per academic year. You will also need to apply directly through the Registrar's Office.
Visiting students will be assessed a registration fee** per quarter (9 weeks or any fraction thereof), payable in person at time of registration. Do not prepay this fee. The registration fee will not be prorated. Living accommodations may be available in the student dormitory. A single room is $500/month** and includes bedding and towels. Effective 07/01/11 the rate for housing may increase.
Hospitalization insurance in an amount equivalent to that required of Johns Hopkins students is required for all visiting students. Application for coverage can be made to the School of Medicine if you do not have equivalent coverage. Foreign insurance is not acceptable. An immunization form must be submitted prior to starting the elective.
Accepted students must complete HIPAA training prior to registration. Please refer to web site http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/som/students/policies/visitors.html for additional information on this requirement.
If you are interested in a clerkship, please complete the enclosed application materials and return it to this office. List three electives in order of your preference, as there are many requests we are unable to accommodate due to the scheduling of electives by our own students.
