Regional Meetings

Dee Miller, our Greenberg Center Program Coordinator and current president of the local DelMarVa chapter of the LPA, is organizing a Regional Little People of America Retreat over the weekend of Friday, April 4 - Sunday, April 6, 2008.  This event will be based at the Timonium Holiday Inn in Timonium, Maryland.
The Greenberg Center is hosting Medical Panel session on Saturday, April 5 from 10am - noon.  Medical professionals from several fields with extensive experience caring for Little People will be present at this Medical Panel session to answer questions and discuss the services that they offer.  This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your local skeletal dysplasia experts.

Other events for the weekend include a tour of Baltimore on the Duck Cruise on Saturday afternoon, a Western-theme banquet on Saturday and dance.  Please contact Dee Miller for more information at 410-614-0977 or spirit.miller@gmail.com.

Greenberg Skeletal Dysplasia Conference

This is a monthly clinical conference held in the Broadway Research Building (BRB) on the 2nd floor in the Carol Johns and Daniel Nathans Faculty Common Room.  The target audience for the lecture series are physicians, postdoctoral trainees in genetics, genetic counselors, physician assistants, nurses, and genetic laboratory personnel who may have an interest in the clinical issues related to skeletal dysplasias.  A typical conference includes local speakers who are selected and invited to discuss clinical topics specific to skeletal dysplasias (e.g. sleep studies, hearing assessment), current clinic research related to skeletal dysplasias (e.g. obstetrical anesthesia in dwarf women) or current advances in the genetics of skeletal dysplasias (e.g. discovery of the causative gene for fibrodysplasia ossificans progressive).

Dee Miller Award Recipient

Dee Miller
Senior Program Clinical Coordinator
Greenberg Center for Skeletal Dysplasias

A Note from the Clinical Director:

At the 2007 Little People of America Convention held in Seattle last week, our own Dee Miller, Senior Clinical Program Coordinator of the Greenberg Center for Skeletal Dysplasias, was named the first recipient of the LPA Anna Dixon Award.

This award was created by the LPA Executive Board to honor Ms. Anna Dixon, a founding member of the organization.  Ms. Dixon was a tireless advocate for the LP Community and instrumental in boosting membership to the LPA in its early years.  Much like Ms. Dixon, Dee Miller has been and continues to be an active member of the LPA.  Dee has served as an officer at the national and local level, and currently holds the position of liason to the Medical Advisory Board of the LPA.  Here at Johns Hopkins, Dee demonstrates compassion, enthusiasm and accuracy everyday as she fields literally hundreds of questions from LPs, their families and care providers every week.

Thank you, Dee, and congratulations.  We are very proud of you and your award.

Sincerely,

Julie Hoover-Fong, M.D., Ph.D
