About the Financial Systems Unit

The Johns Hopkins Financial Systems Unit implements, trains and supports financial and workforce management systems that drive efficiencies and add value to Johns Hopkins Medicine and The Johns Hopkins Health System.  The unit sits within the Johns Hopkins Health System Finance department and is physically located on the Johns Hopkins Keswick campus.  The Financial Systems Unit is led by Jeromy Jordan, Director of Financial Systems, and reports directly to the Johns Hopkins Health System Corporate Controller.

The Financial Systems Unit provides oversight, training and support for the following (but not limited to) systems:

Kronos Workforce Management System

The Kronos team is tasked with providing Kronos as a core workforce management system throughout the enterprise within three core areas; 1) Time & Attendance 2) Advanced Scheduling 3) Advanced Staffing. Each affiliate may use Kronos in a slightly different capacity, and the Kronos team provides implementation, support, training and oversight of current and future Kronos functionality throughout the enterprise. For more information about core offerings please see:

2)    Advanced Scheduling

3)    Advanced Staffing

Business Intelligence

The Business Intelligence (BI) team is tasked with using SAP, Kronos and other core business systems to provide intelligent use of available data for decision making.  The BI team helps Johns Hopkins Medicine and The Johns Hopkins Health System by providing decision makers with dynamic tools to allow for a deeper understanding of what is going on within the business.  The BI team provides routine information delivered through reports and dashboards and is also available for the creation of custom ad hoc reporting and analysis to support decision making.  The BI team uses an array of SAP Business Objects (Bobj) applications to develop these tools and reports for the organization.

SAP

Individuals within the Financial Systems Unit, interact daily with Johns Hopkins Health System Finance and IT@Johns Hopkins as well as the affiliates of both Johns Hopkins Medicine and The Johns Hopkins Health System to provide a high level of support and training on the SAP system.  The team is responsible for driving efficient processes and accuracy of the financial information.  The team leverages modules installed in the transactional and reporting environments including ERP Central Component (ECC), Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), Business Objects (Bobj) and Business Warehouse (BW) platforms to track, review and report on financial information.

The staff is comprised of masters’ level consultants, certified public accountants and other individuals with varied expertise in financial analysis, accounting, database management, and information systems.  Most often and where applicable, the group utilizes a teamwork approach for project management, training and support. This framework has benefits that are threefold.  First, efforts are coordinated to ensure timely response to questions and direct inquiries. Second, using a team introduces diversity in skills and personalities to a deliverables, promoting varied brainstorming and “outside-of-the-box” thinking leading to efficiencies.  Lastly, since the majority of the unit’s projects are very detailed and numbers oriented, the team framework verifies information for completeness and accuracy.
