The conditions of cleft lip and cleft palate may occur separately or together. Surgical repair of cleft lip is typically performed at about three months of age. The palate is usually repaired at nine to 12 months of age.
Correction of clefts involves the closing of the cleft, and the repairing of the cleft lip, which is usually associated with the cleft palate. Surgical repair of cleft lip and palate is a highly specialized skill. Our facial plastic surgeons have each performed hundreds of these procedures.
