Laser Facial Rejuvenation

Lasers are used to resurface and rejuvenate facial skin with wrinkles caused by excess sun exposure, "crow's feet," and acne scarring. The high energy, amplified light waves vaporize the top layer of skin instantly, with no bleeding and minimal trauma to the surrounding skin.

Laser facial rejuvenation can be used to treat discoloration of the skin as well as prominent blood vessels in the face that are unsightly.

Some of the lasers used in the Johns Hopkins Center for Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery include:

This laser is used for skin resurfacing and is a very powerful treatment. Only the area being treated is hit with the laser, leaving the rest of the surrounding skin intact. Patients find they heal quickly and experience minimal time away from work and regular activities.

Carbon Dioxide Laser Treatment is used to remove the outer-most skin and superficial underlying dermis. The skin heals wrinkle free and younger in appearance. Unlike dermabrasion (skin sanding) or chemical peels, which also remove the outer skin, the Co2 laser penetrates into the dermis, heating it and shrinking the skin area resulting in a tighter, more youthful appearance.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy stimulates new collagen to form in the skin. The procedure reduces fine lines, minimizes pore size and acne scars, and increases skin elasticity. Intense pulsed light also diminishes flushing or redness of the face associated with Rosacea, reduces brown spots, erases broken capillaries, and smoothes roughly textured skin. IPL works by stimulating the dermis, the lower layer of skin. Because the epidermis is not damaged, patients avoid the rough, red appearance that results from other types of laser treatments.
