Current Recruitment for Family Studies
New Research Study. We have received additional funding from the National Institute of Mental Health to conduct a new research study which will focus on detecting the relationship between genes and the ability to function effectively in daily activities. We would like to revisit many of the individuals of Ashkenazi descent who have previously enrolled in our genetic studies. We will visit individuals in their homes or another location of their choice. Participants will be asked to take part in a brief interview regarding their typical day-to-day functioning as well as to perform simple tasks that contribute to practical daily functioning. Continuing Studies. You may be able to help us if you have ever been diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or bipolar disorder. Our current studies are enrolling affected individuals and families of Ashkenazi Jewish descent where at least one living relative has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder. We ask the individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder to allow a member of our research group to visit him or her to complete an in-person psychiatric evaluation and blood draw, taking approximately two to three hours. A small honorarium payment will be provided to each volunteer who is interviewed in person. Since 1996, we have enrolled 1200 Jewish families in these studies. You can read comments from some of the many volunteers who have recently corresponded with us in Messages From Our Participants. . If you are interested in participation, we can use your help. If you would like to be contacted, please click here or give us a call on our toll-free (no charge) telephone line. Also, the answers we have provided in our Frequently Asked Questions ("FAQ") may provide further useful information about our studies.
